Joining Corrugated Pipes

Types and Methods of joining double wall corrugated pipes

Coupler gasket connection

Pars Ethylene Kish’scorrugated pipes have pre-fabricated couplers at their ends and their connection is performed from one side. For connection, the pipe end (male) and the inside of the coupler (female) must be cleaned and then the appropriate gasket should be placed on the pipe end and then lubricated with soap or other materials.
Using a Tirfor, put the pipe into the coupler. Care should be taken to ensure that the rubber gasket does not rotate onto the pipe, as it will not water tight. To ensure proper water tightness, care should be taken to clean the gasket and coupler. In the absence of proper care, the corrugated form of the pipe will pull the trench materials into the coupler. For each connection, two gaskets (for different types of pipe- ForPars Ethylene Kish’s corrugated pipes, only one gasket is enough as the design is unique) are required for the ends of the two pipes placed inside the coupler. The gaskets are lubricated before being placed on the pipe with a suitable lubricant. It is important to ensure full lubrication of both coupler gaskets. Care should be taken that the end of both pipes are accurate fitted inside the coupler. If there is a problem with the gasket embedment, it is usually due to the inappropriate lubrication of the gasket as well as the coupler. If the gasket is not lubricated properly during installation, it may migrate. It is recommended to place a plastic or wooden sheet under the coupler when mounting the coupler.

Joining corrugated pipes with thermal coupler

Connecting double wall corrugated pipes via thermal coupling is performed in applications such as irrigation, sanitation, sewage and drainage, building, mining industries, conduits and guarding the underground cables. These couplers are made of high quality polyolefinic materials. The hot melt viscous coating provides 100% sealing. This method for connecting large diameter pipes is practically feasible and economical.

In short, the benefits and features of this coupling is as follows:

• Quick and easy installation

• High resistance to impact and abrasion

• Suitable for dry and wet underground conditions

• Good alignment level with the pipe

• Ability to create greater compatibility in non-alignment conditions due to the elastomeric properties

• Ability to use a coupler size for a pipe with a different size range due to its high accumulation ratio

• Resistant to heat, ultraviolet radiation, vibration, rock particles and unfavorable industrial conditions

• Availability in length and dimensions required

Pre-fabricated Coupler-Gasketed connection (socket-spigot)

When using the socket-spigot system, both O-ring and socket should be lubricated with non-oil lubricants. The male-female parts should be cleaned before lubricating to ensure complete sealing. To avoid damage to the O-ring, use non-oil lubricants such as dishwashing liquid instead of oil lubricants (grease, etc.).
Some benefits of this method are:

• Installation independent of the weather

• Fast and simple installation with high efficiency

• Time saving (no need for welding and cooling and time lost)

• Performing the process without the need for special equipment

• Ability to apply pressure immediately after installation

• Easy to buy without additional parts

Joining corrugated pipes with extrusion welding

In the extrusion welding, pipes and fittings to be connected are welded through by the male and female sections. Therefore, the end sections of the pipes are connected using the extrusion welding device. This method of welding can be done both from inside and outside. This method is suitable for pipelines and gravity manholes. This welding should be done in accordance with section 4 of DVS2207. Here you can find a brief description of how it works. A portable extruder machine that is fed with granular materials is used. This machine can be equipped with different nozzles for welding rods with a diameter of 10 to approximately 25 mm. The capacity for PE is approximately 6 to 8 kg per hour.
The welding speed depends on the preheating time required to heat the welding compound. For preheating, an industrial dryer is used. In addition, for creating the required pressure at the joining site to penetrate the molten polymer a Teflon hammer is used. The welding joints are heated by the industrial hair dryer to the melting point (220 ° C). The molten materials over the pipe are removed from the extrusion nozzle and placed in the welding site. The welding pressure is applied by the pressure tool (Teflon hammer), which starts from one point and in the direction of welding to prevent air bubbles.

The following are among the advantages of the extrusion welding method:

• High output

• Lightweight welding and heating equipment

• Resilient and suitable designs for use in workshop conditions

• The distance between the extruder and the welding site should not exceed 4 m

To ensure proper water tightness, care should be taken to clean the gasket and coupler. In the absence of proper care, the corrugated form of the pipe will pull the trench materials into the coupler. It is recommended to place a plastic or wooden sheet under the coupler when mounting the coupler.
